What to Pack on Your Family Staycation

What to Pack On A Family Staycation

Family staycations are on the rise and we want you to make the most out of your holiday by giving you the best advice! Everyone looks forward to a staycation. But, the stress of packing is inevitable, especially when it ends up being for your entire family. We have teamed up with Amy from Seatkickers in giving you the top tips for your travel essentials. If you bring everything but the kitchen sink on your family holiday this blog is for you! This week on the blog we are covering your holiday checklist so you know what to pack for a holiday.

“I'm Amy the editor of Seatkickers - a site aimed at giving practical travel advice and inspiration to parents of little kids. I live in Manchester with my husband, rescue dog and two daughters - aged seven and two. I created Seatkickers about 18 months ago on maternity leave when I couldn't find a one-stop-shop website that offered honest advice and reviews specifically for parents, so decided to start my own. As well as pooling all of my experiences (including mistakes like forgetting to take nappies on the plane) I asked lots of other mums and dads for theirs too, so now we have something for everyone, from single-parent travelers, staycation lovers and parents of kids. We're also a fab friendly community on Facebook and Instagram too. If there’s one great thing to come out of the past year though, it’s a definite renewed appreciation for the UK: the stunning landscapes, incredible coastline, history,  museums, amusements and of course – the food. So, forget digging around for passports, bypass airport queues, laugh in the face of suitcase weight restrictions and book yourself the perfect family summer holiday just a car (or train) journey away.

Here’s the best advice from the Seatkickers crew:
  • Pack for all seasons: Think sun cream and raincoats! Check out Grass and Air’s colour-changing wellies and brollies, kids will love splashing in puddles or running through rock pools in them!
  • If you’re self-catering, Becca says don’t forget your tea towels, toilet roll, kitchen roll and washing up liquid, plastic plates and cups for little ones too.
  • A small first aid kit –  Calpol, plasters, Piriton, Anthisan and Kwels!
  • Favourite foods – whether that’s Marmite or Vimto, yes you can get it there but you don’t want to be on a race for it with a stroppy child.
  • Sarah suggests packing their favourite bedding and teddies to help small children to settle better. Along with a nightlight, Gro clock or anything they rely on, and don’t forget your monitor if you have a baby and fancy being able to actually leave their room.

  • Check with your accommodation if they provide travel cots / bedding / high chair, but you can get really great travel versions of all of these, and there are companies that hire them out to holiday accommodation too (Yeah, my friend really did hire a Jumparoo for a week!)
  • Diane says don’t forget your travel blackout blinds - they fold up really small and are a god send in summer months
  • All of the snacks ever invented will help you get through a car journey. So will an ipad
  • Packing Cubes So much love for these! Use them to divide up a case for multiple kids, sort clothes for a multi-stop, or separate them  ‘nightwear’ or ‘beach’ etc. You can use for stuff you’re taking to the beach, or a grab- bag for the car. They really are brilliant.”

If you’re going on a family staycation be sure to use Seatkickers’ packing essentials list and prepare for the British weather with our kids’ wellies and rainwear.
