Where to go on Your UK Family Staycation
“I'm Amy the editor of Seatkickers - a site aimed at giving practical travel advice and inspiration to parents of little kids. I live in Manchester with my husband, rescue dog and two daughters - aged seven and two. I created Seatkickers about 18 months ago on maternity leave when I couldn't find a one-stop-shop website that offered honest advice and reviews specifically for parents, so decided to start my own. As well as pooling all of my experiences (including mistakes like forgetting to take nappies on the plane) I asked lots of other mums and dads for theirs too, so now we have something for everyone, from single-parent travellers, staycation lovers and parents of kids. We're also a fab friendly community on Facebook and Instagram too. Where should I go on my family station in the UK? If you’re in need of inspiration for your family summer holiday, here’s the Seatkickers group’s top 10 staycation ideas:
1. Cornwall
I can’t get enough of Cornwall, it’s so beautiful and has something for everyone. We normally stay in Mawgan Porth in North Cornwall, which has accommodation to suit all budgets. Retorrick Mill, The Park, The Watergate Bay Hotel are all wonderful places to stay. With stuff for the kids to do nearby, Camel Creek Adventure Park and Lappa Valley are two favourites.
2. The Cotswolds
Abbie recommends Log House Holidays in the Cotswolds. Luxury log cabins with hot tubs, what’s not to love?
3. Anglesey
There’s some beautiful villages and beaches on this Welsh island. Visit Beaumaris and Lligwy Bay, and the gorgeous Rhosneigr, the kids will love going back to basics searching for crabs and fish in the rockpools, says Becca.
4. Northumberland
Alison suggests a walk along Bamburgh beach, visiting Bamburgh Castle, travelling the causeway to Holy Island and a trip to Alnwick Gardens, a mooch around Berwick-upon-Tweed, or a boat trip from Seahouses to see the wildlife.
5. Norfolk
Diane’s vote goes for crabbing off Cromer Pier ‘my two would do it all day’. She recommends BeWILDerwood for a great day out, Roarr Dinosaur Adventure with its splash zone, a trip to see the seals from Blakeney and a beach hut at Wells and hiring your own boat for a trip along the Norfolk broads.
6. Lake District
If you fancy pushing the boat out, Another Place Hotel in the Lake District is incredible for adults and has an awesome kids’ club, as well as kids’ hours in the restaurant and pool.
7. Yorkshire
Harriet suggests hiring a pre-erected yurt from Borrowbelle and visiting one of the many amazing campsites for a bit of easy glamping and a visit to the Yorkshire Sculpture Park.
8. New Forest
Alison praises the New Forest and suggests exploring Lyndhurst Brockenhurst or Lymington with visits to see the ponies by bike, the National Motor Museum and even Peppa Pig World.
9. Edinburgh
Sarah suggests taking the kids on a city break to Edinburgh, where they can visit the castle, the zoo, climb Arthur’s Seat or go on a Harry Potter tour.
10. Pembrokeshire
Bluestone Resort in Pembrokeshire is a repeat recommendation from our group with brilliant on-site activities and stunning landscape.”
